Luggage restrictions are found in every airport. Another term for this is baggage allowance. Whichever is used though, the airline passenger
must consider it even before entering the airport.
These regulations are published regularly by government agencies. And it is a mandate for all airports to have it published accessibly.
Furthermore, passengers from all lifestyles are encouraged to be aware of these restrictions.
This is an all-important traveling requirement especially if one does not want to have trip of hassles. One should be reminded though that the
carry on luggage restrictions change regularly.
There are updates as security levels are maintained. That means one restriction today could be different tomorrow.
In the United States, the allowable number of luggages one passenger can carry is only two. Each luggage should weigh no more than 50 lbs or
22.7 kilograms. Any excess kilo will mean a charge for the passenger.
In Europe, however, the case is different. Each passenger is only allowed 40 lbs of luggage or equivalent to 18 kilos. In some cases, European
airports do not even allow charge for the excess baggage, so the only option for the passenger is to leave extra belongings behind.
The government and airport’s reason in implementing this restriction is to save on airplane cargo space. United States is more lenient in this
regulation, allowing passengers to carry on excess items of their luggage.
This is where carry on luggage restrictions come in.
In the recent years, there has been an issue regarding the hand carrying of items like creams and lotions. There is also even a time when
passengers where not allowed to bring baby formulas.
Recently these are the changes applied on such personal belongings. Aerosols, gels, toothpastes and other personal care liquids should be
placed in a container that is no more than 3 lbs. If there is an excess, the extra item should be places in a separate container with the same
limited weight.
These personal care products must be place in a clear, zipper type, quarter size plastic bag. There are however, exceptions now and that
includes baby formulas, juices, and breast milk. Prescription drugs and even life support materials like blood and transplant organs can now be
carried on.
To check on the latest changes on carry on luggage restrictions, make sure to call your nearest airport or your local government office. These
constraints do not have to be a hassle for your trip.
Just abide by the rules, be cooperative and make your travel a stress-free and worry-free experience.
